Unlike other publications for keyboard ensembles, which exclude pianists, there is no falling back on the auto-chord or 'single finger' bass and chord accompaniment patterns to complete the music. Instead, with the exception of standard drum kit patterns on some pieces, all sounds and phrases come directly from the notation and both books give opportunities to improvise 'horizontally' with single scales over progressively harmonically denser jazz and R & B textures, without the need to understand advanced jazz harmony.

The two volumes are attractively designed with colour-coded parts in the back for ease with copy making for the players' parts; but for regular keyboard club players and busy Heads of Music Departments, the parts are also available in small separate books for each player.
